Text Box: Abortion: Modern Man’s Sacred Cow
My family and I are now planning an anniversary party for my mom and dad’s golden wedding anniversary. While this is a happy occasion marked with celebration, there are many anniversaries that give no reason for such.

Take the anniversary of Pearl Harbor or the dropping of the atomic bombs over Hiroshima and Nagasaki, for example. And let’s not forget the Twin Towers and the attack perpetrated against us on 9/11.

While these “milestones” of human tragedy mark our calendars, there is another one that we must not forget. January presents us with a “milestone” of sorts. It is one celebrated by many but lamented by others. It is an anniversary that continues to increase the number of dead, perhaps by a million or more year over year with no end in sight. What am I talking about? That’s easy, does the phrase “Roe V. Wade ring a bell?

Marking the decision handed down by the US Supreme Court in 1973, it gave a woman the right to abortion on demand. Since that day, abortion on demand has been the “golden calf” of a very determined group in America and anything that threatens their pseudo-constitutional right to that process is deemed an enemy.

I read an article by a woman who berated President Bush for his role in her abortion. With an unwanted pregnancy and not wanting the inconvenience of the typical abortion she began her search for “Plan-B” on the Internet. In her search she found nothing but pro-life “political propaganda involving 3-D and 4-D images of the unborn in the wombs of other women. Well, to make a long story short, the over-the-counter “morning-after” pill was nowhere to be found and in her frustration, she blamed the President for her abortion.

There’s no doubt that such technology is affecting the abortion industry. And why wouldn’t it? It opens the womb and reveals the very thing that Christians said was there in the first place – a living child; a reality could threaten the profits of an already prosperous but godless abortion industry.

Then enter “Plan-B.” with the growing threat of technology, particularly 3-D and 4-D imaging, on the abortion industry “Plan-B is essential for the protection of this “golden calf.” After all, it makes perfect sense to make an abortion available via a process that bypasses all of the “pro-life propaganda” that could change a persons mind; not only about their abortion but about the reality of life before birth.

So, in essence, Plan-B was implemented because technological advances were threatening “Plan-A” (abortion on demand). With Plan-B now legal, abortion advocates have decided to bolster their defense for “Plan-B,” anticipating future battles over the issue.

That’s why I call the push for embryonic stem cell research “Plan-C.” It, like “plan B,” is the same abortion debate in different garb; it is Roe v. Wade revisited for the third time and, like the original abortion issue, masked extremely well in humanitarian jargon – a topic for another column.

Think about it. If special protection were afforded the unborn at stage-1, the stage of development at which T-cells are extracted, then legal protection could be logically extended to the unborn at later stages as well. That, my friend, would spell big trouble for the current industry.

The fight for embryonic stem cell research, then, isn't so much a fight for medical advancement as it is the establishment of political and legal grounds for future battles regarding abortion on demand. This sad reality was solidified in the recent news out of Winston-Salem, NC where a research has reported the discovery and confirmation of a new source of stem cells. These same cells have been used to “create muscle, bone, fat, blood vessel nerve and liver cells in the laboratory” (Medical News Today, medicalnewstoday.com) and are extracted from the amniotic fluid surrounding the baby.

With such success on record, it still isn’t enough for the abortion activist who fights for the right to take the life of an unborn child as their pseudo-constitutional right. They continue to reject any other proven stem cell source as an ethical alternative to the destruction of innocent life; and that is, a “sacred cow” if I’ve ever seen one.
